Darlene Kay Ames


Age 59, of Herndon, VA, went home to be with our Lord on Sunday, December 9, 2007, in her home surrounded by her immediate family.

She was born March 11, 1948 in Wilmington, DE, the daughter of Warren and Helen Baker Ames. She was the granddaughter of the late Charles B. and Lillie E. Stone Ames and the late Ralph and Ethel Baker. She was the wife of Robert J. Soltess whom she married June 29, 1975. Darlene was a 1970 graduate of University of Delaware. She was an elementary teacher for 12 years most recently at Herndon Elementary School and was an educational therapist with the Discovery Program at National Institute for Learning Development for 13 years retiring in 2004. She was a woman of strong faith and an active mentor of young women at Chantilly Bible Church, Chantilly, VA. Darlene enjoyed gardening, entertaining, travel and being a good neighbor and friend of many. She was a wonderful hostess and cook, and her recipes were often featured in the local paper.

Surviving besides her husband are a son Jeffrey R. (Rose) Soltess of Herndon, VA; a daughter, Andrea K. Soltess of Reston, VA; a granddaughter, Sofia R. Soltess of Herndon, VA; her mother, Helen Ames of Newark, DE; a sister, Donna Mooyman of Newark, DE; a brother, Robert Ames of Elkton, MD; her mother-in-law, Patricia A. Soltess of Chelan, WA; her father-in-law, Jess (Sue) Soltess of Auburn Hills, MI; her brother-in-law, Ross Soltess of Richland, MI; and 2 sisters-in-law, Barbara Soltess of Chelan Falls, WA and Julia Swanson of Lake Orion, MI. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, Warren Ames who passed away April 7, 1997 and her brother, Richard W. Ames who passed away November 29, 1993.

The funeral service will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, December 15, in the Lind Funeral Home, 805 W. 3rd St., Jamestown, NY. The Rev. Howard E. Garver, pastor of Levant Wesleyan Church, will officiate. Burial will be in the Allen Cemetery, Falconer, NY. Friends will be received from 9-11 am, on Saturday in the funeral home. A Memorial Service will be held at 3 pm, on Sunday, December, 23 at the Chantilly Bible Church, Chantilly, VA.
